FREE STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY THAT DOESN’T SUCK. HERE YOU’LL FIND MY FIVE FAVORITE SITES FOR FINDING STOCK PHOTOGRAPHY.
I’m a photography enthusiast, which will say I love taking photographs, and have even had my photographs published. However, I’m no pro, like my daughter, Cierra. Sometimes us bloggers and business owners have a lot to tell and don’t have the imagery that fits with the stories, am I right? Have you been there? You want to write about something, but either aren’t good with the camera or you just don’t have the time or opportunity to get that shot you think would look great with your post.
I’ve been there, and I’m sure many of you have too. Stock Photography is a great way for adding some life to your blog posts, or business proposals. Some of us though don’t want to, or simply cannot spend a lot on the pics, so we search for free stock photography, and let’s be honest, some of it really is terrible. However there are many websites that offer free stock photography that doesn’t suck. Many of them free for all usage, whether for commercial use or for your blog and or website.

Just recently I baked my favorite chocolate chip cookies, and took some pics. However I was also babysitting, working on a project and preparing for dinner, so I couldn’t do a shoot with 100% attention for detailed photography. So in my post I used my own photography mixed with some stock photography. The cookies looked like mine, and the same background was used, so I used the stock pic for the header image, and added one into the post. The fact that a few of the pics weren’t my own doesn’t change the fact that the cookies were delicious and the recipe is a winner! If the cookies came out of the oven looking completely different than in the stock photo’s, it would be misleading, but they do look like my cookies so I got really lucky! For the most part, I wouldn’t use stock photography for recipes, but with that post it really worked.
There are so many websites that offer free images, but it can be a long process sifting through the photographs that aren’t aesthetically pleasing (polite way of saying they suck). I’ve found some sites that offer some great free imagery, many with no strings attached. I find once I’ve used the same photographer a few times, I buy them a cup of coffee with the PayPal donation button whenever it is provided. Trust me, this feels great as a creator! Showing appreciation is always a good thing!
Tip! When you start browsing a site with free stock photography, create an account and either save pics as favorites ♥, or create collections.
Creating collections, or saving your favorites will make things easier when you need just the right photo! This way you can find things quicker. If you’re anything like me, you’ll get distracted looking at pics and forget what you were looking for. My collections help me a lot! Pinterest could also be used for creating collections.
Below you’ll find my picks for finding quality photo’s for free.
