CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIES THAT I THINK YOU SHOULD BAKE

Autumn comforts include home-baked cookies. I think you need to bake these chocolate chip cookies. We see a lot of times people saying ‘best ever’, but how will you know if you don’t try them all? 😉 I have a tasty recipe for you today: perfectly, chewy chocolate chip cookies adapted from The Fannie Farmer Cookbook. For me, Autumn is baking season, and today it’s cookie baking day (tomorrow, will be too).   When I was around sixteen or seventeen…

TREK is a food truck festival in The Netherlands. The festival travels through the country from May through September. We went this evening, the three of us. My boyfriend Ivo and my daughter Cierra. Cierra had been before but for Ivo and I it was the first visit to TREK. We had a really nice time. The atmosphere was great and the food was delicious, plus there was a large variety of food to try, from various kitchens. I could say it…

DUTCH APPLE PIE WITH ALMOND PASTE

DUTCH APPLE PIE WITH ALMOND PASTE A TWIST ON THE DUTCH CLASSIC. This is a twist to the classic Dutch Apple Pie ‘appeltaart‘. It contains almond paste and in the dough we added almond flakes, this provides it with a surprise element. I love all types of apple pies. The Dutch ‘appeltaart‘ with a crumbled crust is probably my favourite because I love the spiced crumbled topping. We recently had our housewarming party and this apple pie was one of…

Winter Comfort in a Cup // Cocoa Recipe

Winter Comfort in a Cup // Cocoa Recipe This cocoa recipe is a favorite of mine. This one is spicy and will warm you up on a cold day. You could say it is the ultimate warm comfort in a cup for cold winter days.  I originally made this post for the HEMA blog. The HEMA blog relationship ended abruptly… the blog has vanished into thin air and I’ve received not a peep from them. So now I’m republishing my…

Naked Carrot + Peach Cake

This cake is my new favourite. It really is the best alternative for the classic carrot cake. Because the cream cheese frosting isn’t completely covering the cake, leaving it partially naked the cake doesn’t become overwhelmingly sweet. I’ve tried versions with pineapple and coconut and I love them too but this is a class higher. I would of loved to have been able to use fresh fruit but it simply wasn’t available. The frozen and canned fruit worked and if…

FOOD + COLOUR CRUSH. FRENCH MACARONS

FOOD + COLOUR CRUSH. FRENCH MACARONS LOVE. LOVE. LOVE. They’re cute, taste good and make me smile. French Macarons brighten my day and they are for sure my biggest food crush. The mini cake stand in the photographs was a D.I.Y. project I made for the HEMA Academy Posts category on the Dutch warehouse Hema’s blog. The project was do it yourself hangers for on the wall. I had one left over and use it now for a cake stand…

easter brunch for the kids // styling tips

a creative mess [.nl]

Styling tips for an Easter brunch with kids. These tips can be applied to any party / event with children. Decorating and styling a table for kids, whether for a birthday or holiday, in this case Easter is always fun. Bright colors and a lot of cuteness. Again I teamed up with my daughter Cierra, owner of Bloesem Photography for this project. We decided to go with a white background and table so that the colors would really pop. It…

Parma & Sun-dried Tomato Pizza Wrap

Parma & Sun-dried Tomato Pizza Wrap  Table for two. On warm summer days I enjoy eating outside in the garden with a cold beverage. I love cooking with fresh seasonable vegetables but don’t enjoy spending so much time in the kitchen on those days when the temperature is rising. Usually I cook for two; my boyfriend en I. I don’t like when I have to throw food away because it’s gone bad so I try to just purchase and cook…
